Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple made a breakthrough yesterday. iPhone, iPad and Macbook users now receive faster security updates called Rapid Security Response to patch loopholes that hackers can exploit to hijack and clone.
On Monday (1/5/2023), Apple announced the “Rapid Security Response” patch to users of their devices. The goal is to fix security gaps that threaten iPhone, iPad and Macbook users without having to wait for regular updates.
In Apple’s notification, the Rapid Security Response update contains “important security developments among software updates.”
The download and install Rapid Security Response feature works by default. Some updates are even installed without having to go through the rebooting process.
This Rapid Security Response update is known to have been received by iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1, and macOS 13.3.1 users. Once installed, the name of the operating system on the device will change by adding letters in brackets, for example iOS 16.4.1 becomes iOS 16.4.1 (a).
Older operating systems cannot receive these instant updates and must wait for a fix in the next software update.
TechCrunch states Apple does not provide information about threats addressed with this instant update.
However, in recent weeks the media has reported on security flaws exploited by stalking and spying app makers QuaDream and NSO Group. Both of them had previously revealed security gaps in Apple’s software that enabled them to steal data from iPhone users’ devices.
Citizen Lab, according to TechCrunch, last week stated that the Lockdown Mode feature that Apple released last year was the company’s attempt to block attacks by hackers such as QuaDream and NSO Group.
